W ill Dodson & Ruth Schimmelpfennig are Chef-Proprietors. They purchased The Barnard Inn Restaurant in May of 2000. Previously they owned and operated two successful restaurants in San Francisco - Frascati and Élan Vital. They married in 1999 and longed for a more serene country setting. Their search brought them to beautiful Barnard, Vermont. It was the quintessential Vermont setting- a 1796 chateau nestled amongst rolling hills, dairy and organic farms, and maple trees which lured them away from the crooked streets of the city by the bay. Instantly they fell in love with the Inn- then in turn sold both restaurants in San Francisco and moved 3,000 miles to the rural Vermont countryside. Being chef /owners of the establishment allows them to remain both visionaries with their cuisine and 100% involved with the integration of the wine list with their food.
