Everything about this moment at Sterling Ridge Resort is bright and sunny: the weather, the traditional Bengali wedding attire, the sunflower wedding arch by Flower Power VT, and of course, the couple’s beaming smiles.

This couple walked into their Mansfield Barn ready to start the party with a very impressive flip and a shot! Talk about a memorable, fun entrance! We can only imagine how fun the rest of the night must have been!

One of the most iconic moments at a Sugarbush Resort is the “Just Married” private chairlift ride after your ceremony! It’s an amazing opportunity to soak in the day privately with your partner, and get some killer photos!

A Cheeky Farewell

The bride’s makeup, courtesy of Jennifer Perellie, was the only thing left on for this late night, naked pond dive! It’s a cheeky, very fun, and (we’re guessing) refreshing way to end a wedding night and celebrate the start of the next chapter!

In Vogue

This unbelievably chic couple looks like they stepped out of the pages of Vogue. Jennifer Perellie created a sophisticated look for the bride that complimented their unique elopement style perfectly.

Timeless Beauties

This couple’s style is as elegant as it is timeless! His black tux, from McNeil and Reedy and her embellished gown from Fiori Bridal, are stunning choices for their wedding at The Essex. (And if the arbor by Tipsy Tulip Designs looks familiar, it’s because it was a pick for the best florals of 2022!)

The Two for One

Just look at the ruffles on her skirt – how can you help but soon?! This Veilmonté Bridal Showroom gown had a surprise though; not only was it perfect for a romantic ceremony but the skirt detached revealing a sleak, ready-to-dance reception dress. Amazing.

Black Beauty

This bride was determined to show off her darker style in her wedding attire, and she nailed it! Her black lace top and dip dyed skirt combo are stunning. (She even painted her nails black to match!)

Photo: Madison Anne Studio

Shades of Green

Jaclyn Watson planned this stunning wedding which featured shades of green from the wedding party to the decor. This bridal party totally nailed the mismatched look with their coordinated green dresses. I especially love how their bouquets kept in the same green and white palette, perfectly complimenting the style.

Classy and Classic

I love this timeliness look by Fawn MUA! The subtle makeup and lush lashes compliment her traditional gown and beaded veil perfectly. Perfection.

The Winter Wow

This is what happens when your wedding party not understands the assignment but completely rocks it. From the goggles to the boots to the fur shawls, this wedding party has the après party look locked down!

Black and White Beauties (Readers Choice Awards)

The bride’s beaded black suit is truly unlike anything I’ve seen before; I’m obsessed! Add to that her beloved in a stunningly elegant white gown and the wildly lush bouquets by M’s Wedding Flowers and I’m rendered speechless. Their entire look is a showstopper!

The Cape Sweep

This glamorous couple works in theatre, so it came to no surprise to planner Odyssey Events that they understood drama! The bridal cape adds an unparalleled sense of drama and elegance to their classic look.

Wild and Wonderful

Photographer Hallie Jade got married this year at Wild Sugar, the venue her and husband own and maintain. I love their colorful style – from her veil to their wedding party…it’s a little wild, and totally wonderful.

Modern Love

I love the contrast between the clean, modern lines of the space (how cool is that metal arbor?) with the lush, colorful flowers by Yanique Events. Designed by Ehmann Events, this look is so fresh and lovely!

Photo: Isora Lithgow Creations

Radiant in Red

The bride wore a stunning red sari for her Sikh marriage ceremony, known as the ‘Anand Karaj’, meaning blissful union.  This grand, multi-day event was planned by NJoy Weddings & Events. From the rich colors to her sparkling jewels to her natural excitement, this bride is positively radiant!

The Getaway Look

I love this bride’s feathered jacket for the most perfect getaway outfit! It adds a touch of whimsy and elegance to their sparkler exit.

French Fête

This couple’s celebration was inspired by classic French culture (they even shared their first dance to a classic French song!). The bride wore an off the shoulder gown, and the groom wore a white tux jacket. The elegant style was mirrored by their decor, including the lush florals by Anaphora Flowers. Each detail provided the perfect ambience for their intimate fête.

Nailing It

I love this close up shot of the bride’s bedazzled nails. The design is fun and glitzy, and the neutral color palette keeps it sophisticated. Hands down, a great look!

Dark and Dreamy

This couple embraced their dark side with a color palette that was both dreamy and dramatic! It’s a great choice for their emotional fall wedding (just try to watch their vows without crying).

Classic & Cool

This couple is so glamorous. Jennifer Perellie created a makeup look that allows the bride’s natural beauty to show through and compliments the classic wedding planned by Lindsey Leichthammer. And that candid shot of the couple with their sunglasses…too cool for words. (Photo: Matt Lim)

Quick recap: what is Vermont Weddings Best of 2021 Series?

A little backstory if you’re unfamiliar: we started the Best of series last year (2020) to highlight some of the amazing work by the talented teams in the Vermont wedding industry. It’s an opportunity to both celebrate a year’s worth of weddings and inspire couples who are planning a future Vermont wedding. (A quick note on the word “best”: the intention isn’t to make this a competition between weddings, but to share a small, but representative, sample of the weddings in Vermont this year.  To that end, please know that we love each and every wedding that was submitted, and the final picks are carefully chosen based on a variety of factors to create a compelling series.)

Here’s what you can expect:

All December, we’ll be rolling out inspiring stories in various categories:

  • Read Now: Best of Engagements
  • Best of Style
  • Best of Flowers
  • Best of Party Animals
  • Best of Design & Details
  • Best of Elopements
  • Best of Location
  • Best of Community

Plus, because the submissions were just THAT good, we’re sharing our “semi finalist” picks for each category on Instagram. That means you’ll want to follow us to see even more highlights, and come back to the blog each week to see the “best” picks in each category.

We recommend signing up for our newsletter – we’ll send you an email each week with the highlights so you won’t miss a thing. (Going forward we only send 1 – 2 emails a month.)

MEET MAKEUP ARTIST JENNIFER PERELLIE

Every bride wants to feel confident on her wedding day, which is why a talented makeup artist plays a key role on your wedding day. Jennifer Perellie is an award-winning, internationally-published makeup artist. With over a decade’s worth of experience, she’s helped countless brides feel their best on their big day. She sat down with Vermont Weddings to share a bit about herself and how she became an in-demand makeup artist.

How did you get into wedding makeup?
I worked on counter for a big makeup company while freelancing on location for film and photoshoots. I booked a wedding through conversation one day, and completely fell in love with the whole experience! I knew right from the first wedding that it was a perfect fit for me. Luckily, the Vermont wedding industry is very welcoming, and it did not take long before I was working weddings full time. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a supportive and talented community.

How would you describe your style?
I truly think the most beautiful makeup is what I’d call enhancing makeup. I prefer a natural, fresh face that enhances a bride’s beauty. I excel in creating ethereal, perfectly-blended makeup with a subtle glow that stays put all day.

What inspires your work?
The power of makeup inspires me. I love how even the most subtle change or addition can make the biggest difference. For example, I love how a bold red lip can make me feel confident. Makeup not only sets the mood – it can change it completely. It’s really is a powerful tool that can be used to convey emotion. It’s also just so much fun!

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?
Definitely the moment the bride is done with her hair and makeup, gets into her wedding dress and sees herself in the mirror for the first time. It’s a wonderful moment to witness.

Any special tips for couples for choosing / working with a wedding makeup artist or about wedding makeup in general?
First I recommend that they look closely at portfolios. Even though makeup is creative, look for consistency in the work. Look for closeups, zoom in on the work and really see it! Look at the style of the work. If you gravitate towards their style that’s a good sign.

Professionalism is just as important as talent. Not only will you need a MUA who you can trust with executing your vision, you also need someone who is organized and responsive with communication and follow-through.

Investment is also important to consider. Price matches talent and experience. A seasoned makeup artist who excels in their field is going to be a bigger investment but it’s absolutely worth it.

Lastly, make sure you like your makeup artist and feel comfortable around them. You will be spending a lot of time together along with your closest family and friends on the morning of your wedding. It’s important to like who will be helping you all get ready during those moments before the ceremony begins.

What’s your favorite thing to do in VT?
My favorite thing to do is pack up my truck and head out for a day of kayaking.

If you weren’t a wedding makeup artist, what would you do?
Before my career in makeup I was a working mixed media artist. I have sold paintings all around the world. If it wasn’t for the creative outlet I have with makeup, I would probably still be painting professionally.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?
I have a painting on an album cover of the songwriter who wrote Taylor Danes “Tell It To My Heart”.

AN ELEGANT BARN WEDDING AT THE INN AT THE ROUND BARN FARM

Laura and Travis, both native Vermonters, met their sophomore year at UVM and have been together ever since. When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew they wanted to tie the knot in the Green Mountain state.

Laura says she and Travis knew the The Inn at Round Barn Farm was their ideal venue. “The barn is in an idyllic setting, surrounded by lush greenery. And it gave us options to host outside or inside,” she says.

The couple partnered with planner Wink and Willow to bring their dream of a rustic barn wedding with modern, elegant touches to life. Other personalized touches included Laura’s dress change (complete with denim jacket), an appearance from the couple’s adorable pup, and a custom pink neon sign with their wedding hashtag. The result was, in a single word: stunning.

ROMANTIC FALL WEDDING AT BOYDEN FARM

Every season has its own unique beauty, but there is something special about autumn in Vermont. For Lauren and Joe, the season offered the perfect backdrop to their October wedding the Barn at Boyden Farm. “We wanted friends and family, especially those who had never been to Vermont, to experience the beauty the Green Mountains has to offer!” says Lauren. “Being late October, we were blessed with both foliage and snow capped mountains.”

Lauren, originally from the Northeast Kingdom, and Joe, who grew up skiing in Vermont, met in Atlanta through mutual friends. They said it was a no-brainer to celebrate their wedding back in the state they both loved.

Vermont Fall Wedding Details

Because of the early chill, guests were greeted with blankets, hand warmers and spiked cider to stay warm during the outdoor ceremony, which took place under an arbor built by the bride’s dad with driftwood from her childhood home.

Some of the couple’s favorite moments were in the quiet, small details of the day. Joe fondly remembers watching Lauren walk down the aisle, noting her veil glowed in the evening sun. Lauren says her favorite moment was the vows. “Joe had rescued two kittens for me a year before we got married,” she explains. “and he had written his vows on a kitty card. I was so nervous, but when I saw the card, I couldn’t help but smile and feel at ease.”
