An Elegant September Wedding at The Mansfield Barn

September is a beautiful time to get married in Vermont and Madison and Chris’ wedding at The Mansfield Barn is the perfect example. This gorgeous late summer barn wedding is full of inspiring details – just scroll through the gallery below to see what we mean!

A Historic Vermont Barn Wedding Venue

Located in Jericho, The Mansfield Barn is a meticulously renovated post and beam Vermont Wedding Barn, originally built in the 1840s. Located at the foot of Mount Mansfield, the venue offers stunning mountain top views, rustic charm, and modern amenities (like indoor bathrooms, two suites for getting ready, and air conditioning!). It’s a great venue for couples who want the rustic elegance of a real, historic barn.

Elegant Barn Wedding Details

Destinations Found provided month of coordination to help the couple pull together all the details to create a memorable celebration. We love how the tables were simply dressed with white and champagne linens, maple syrup favors, and pastel floral arrangements. It’s simple and chic: perfect for an elegant barn wedding!

Cronin Cakes & Sweets served up a scrumptious two-tiered cake with classic white buttercream frosting and florals that complimented the bouquets by Tipsy Tulip. And, a four-flavor cupcake display offered guests several options to satisfy their sweet tooth after an evening of dancing!

Check out all the details, captured by Colette Kulig Photography, below!

Best of 2022: Wedding Florals

Flowers are the ultimate wedding accessory. Whether in a bouquet, adorned on an arbor, or decorating a tablescape, wedding florals add that extra something to each celebration.

Editorial Picks for Best Vermont Wedding Florals

Vermont wedding florists crafted countless gorgeous creations this year, and after culling through the stunning submissions, I narrowed it down to our editorial picks for the best Vermont wedding florals of 2022.

After swooning over them, you voted for your Readers Choice Awards winner – see who below!

Falling in Love (Readers Choice Awards Winner)

I love the use of orange and corals in these fall bouquets by Fleur Du Nord Farm. They perfectly pop against the dark green bridesmaid dresses and are the sweetest nod to the beautiful Vermont foliage at Sterling Ridge Resort.

A Petal Party

I couldn’t narrow a favorite in this submission from Blossoming Bough – the arbor; the aisle runners; the bouquet; the tablescape… all topped with a post ceremony petal toss?! It’s chef’s kiss.

The Dreamiest Arbor

Truly one of the most stunning arbors I’ve ever seen. Tipsy Tulip Designs crafted the perfect, romantic backdrop for this couple’s wedding ceremony at The Essex. (Their outfits, her in a gown from Fiori Bridal and him in a suit from McNeil & Reedy add to the glamour.)

A Blizzard Beauty

The all white floral scheme is classic and oh-so elegant for this winter wedding. Florist Jasmine of A Clover and One Bee, shared that there was a major snowstorm that day, and she rode in a snowplow to personally deliver the bouquet to the bride! (Doesn’t get more Vermont than that!)

Bold and Beautiful

These coral peonies steal the show, and the lilac is a stunning, unexpected compliment. I can only imagine this bouquet by M’s Wedding Flowers was as sweetly fragrant as it is boldly beautiful!

The Sunshine Day

This arbor by Flower Power VT makes me want to break into into song – “it’s going to be a bright, bright, sunshiny day!” I can’t think of a better backdrop for a beautiful, joyful summer wedding celebration. Even more amazing: all the blooms are grown on Anne’s farm!

Forever in Bloom

These custom, resin bookends by Tanglewood Floral Preservation are the most creative and beautiful way to remember your wedding day – and preserve your wedding flowers! Such a treasure for years to come.

Best of 2022: Wedding Style

This year like never before, couples slayed their wedding photos in style. From elegant, timeless looks to one of a kind outfits, Vermont couples came dressed to impress!

Check out the style inspiration below in our editor’s picks for Best of 2022 Style, and scroll to see who you voted for your Readers Choice Awards pick!

In Vogue

This unbelievably chic couple looks like they stepped out of the pages of Vogue. Jennifer Perellie created a sophisticated look for the bride that complimented their unique elopement style perfectly.

Timeless Beauties

This couple’s style is as elegant as it is timeless! His black tux, from McNeil and Reedy and her embellished gown from Fiori Bridal, are stunning choices for their wedding at The Essex. (And if the arbor by Tipsy Tulip Designs looks familiar, it’s because it was a pick for the best florals of 2022!)

The Two for One

Just look at the ruffles on her skirt – how can you help but soon?! This Veilmonté Bridal Showroom gown had a surprise though; not only was it perfect for a romantic ceremony but the skirt detached revealing a sleak, ready-to-dance reception dress. Amazing.

Black Beauty

This bride was determined to show off her darker style in her wedding attire, and she nailed it! Her black lace top and dip dyed skirt combo are stunning. (She even painted her nails black to match!)

Photo: Madison Anne Studio

Shades of Green

Jaclyn Watson planned this stunning wedding which featured shades of green from the wedding party to the decor. This bridal party totally nailed the mismatched look with their coordinated green dresses. I especially love how their bouquets kept in the same green and white palette, perfectly complimenting the style.

Classy and Classic

I love this timeliness look by Fawn MUA! The subtle makeup and lush lashes compliment her traditional gown and beaded veil perfectly. Perfection.

The Winter Wow

This is what happens when your wedding party not understands the assignment but completely rocks it. From the goggles to the boots to the fur shawls, this wedding party has the après party look locked down!

Black and White Beauties (Readers Choice Awards)

The bride’s beaded black suit is truly unlike anything I’ve seen before; I’m obsessed! Add to that her beloved in a stunningly elegant white gown and the wildly lush bouquets by M’s Wedding Flowers and I’m rendered speechless. Their entire look is a showstopper!

The Cape Sweep

This glamorous couple works in theatre, so it came to no surprise to planner Odyssey Events that they understood drama! The bridal cape adds an unparalleled sense of drama and elegance to their classic look.

Photo: Savannah Brown

Wild and Wonderful

Photographer Hallie Jade got married this year at Wild Sugar, the venue her and husband own and maintain. I love their colorful style – from her veil to their wedding party…it’s a little wild, and totally wonderful.

Modern Love

I love the contrast between the clean, modern lines of the space (how cool is that metal arbor?) with the lush, colorful flowers by Yanique Events. Designed by Ehmann Events, this look is so fresh and lovely!

Photo: Isora Lithgow Creations

Radiant in Red

The bride wore a stunning red sari for her Sikh marriage ceremony, known as the ‘Anand Karaj’, meaning blissful union.  This grand, multi-day event was planned by NJoy Weddings & Events. From the rich colors to her sparkling jewels to her natural excitement, this bride is positively radiant!

Photo: Virdee Films

The Getaway Look

I love this bride’s feathered jacket for the most perfect getaway outfit! It adds a touch of whimsy and elegance to their sparkler exit.

Photo: Idena Beach Photography

French Fête

This couple’s celebration was inspired by classic French culture (they even shared their first dance to a classic French song!). The bride wore an off the shoulder gown, and the groom wore a white tux jacket. The elegant style was mirrored by their decor, including the lush florals by Anaphora Flowers. Each detail provided the perfect ambience for their intimate fête.

Nailing It

I love this close up shot of the bride’s bedazzled nails. The design is fun and glitzy, and the neutral color palette keeps it sophisticated. Hands down, a great look!

Dark and Dreamy

This couple embraced their dark side with a color palette that was both dreamy and dramatic! It’s a great choice for their emotional fall wedding (just try to watch their vows without crying).

Best of 2022: Wedding Cakes & Drinks

From the initial cheers to cutting the cake, food and drink are major part of a wedding celebration. This year, couples expressed their individual styles through their wedding cakes and drinks, resulting in some truly amazing (and amazingly delicious) displays!

We served up lots of inspiration below in our editor’s picks for Best of 2022 Wedding Cakes & Drinks, and you voted for your favorite in our Readers Choice Awards – scroll to see the winner!

Wildflower Wonder (Readers Choice Award Winner)

Pressed flower cakes had a moment in 2022, and this one by Blue House Bakeshop is one of my favorites. Not only is it stunning, but it matches the bride’s floral wedding gown!

Photographer: Rodeo & Co

Something Blue

This 3-tier cake by Cronin Cakes & Sweets  boasts a variety of textures with small sugar flowers, real flowers from Tipsy Tulip Designs, rustic buttercream edges, and a soft blue ribbon. It’s elegant, sweet, and the perfect addition for a spring wedding!

Flying (Sugar) High

This 3-tier butterfly cake made by The Goose Chase Cake Design is so unique! It rises above the display of equally unique meringue mushrooms, arranged on wood tree cookies and decorated with twinkle lights. The overall design is whimsical, magical, and woodland chic!

Raise the Bar

A bar that doubles as decor? Yep! VT Mobile Spirits converted an antique horse trailer into a fully mobile event bar, and I love the look in this vintage wedding set up!

Winter Wedding at Lake Bomoseen Lodge

Vermont winter weddings are so magical! Angela and Matt planned their day at Lake Bomoseen Lodge with hints of vintage glamour and Vermont charm. Tipsy Tulip Designs created beautiful wintry floral designs and McNeil Reedy created a timeless look for Matt and his groomsmen. We always recommend hiring a videographer, and they chose Eightzero2 Productions to capture their wedding day perfectly (see their wedding video below)!

Six years earlier, Angela and Matt attended a winter wedding together in Vermont. Even though they had initially never pictured a winter wedding for themselves, it was so beautiful and enchanting, they knew one day a Vermont winter wedding would be a part of their story as well.

Gorgeous Winter Wedding Details

Velvet and burgundy details were perfect for this winter wedding. From the bridesmaid dresses to Angela’s red velvet shoes, to the groomsmen’s ties…the rich color looked incredible against the snowy backdrop! I loved that they added fur stoles to stay warm and add a vintage flare.

Instead of a first look before the ceremony, Angela and Matt decided to do a first touch instead. Matt didn’t want to see Angela in her dress before the ceremony, but she knew her nerves could not withstand waiting until the ceremony entrance. They stood around the corner of the front porch on Pine Cottage and held hands, laughed, cried, and exchanged a couple of cheeky remarks.

Romantic Reception at Lake Bomoseen Lodge

After their ceremony, the couple headed out onto the frozen Lake Bomoseen to take portraits. With temperatures in the mid-teens, Angela came prepared with her fur shrug, snow books, and her “something blue”: Vermont Darn Tough boot socks

Right before their reception began they decided to do a private reveal of their reception space upstairs in the Loft. While everyone was downstairs in the Taproom wrapping up cocktail hour it gave them 10 minutes to just stop and be present with each other, and savor the bliss of finally being husband and wife. Like everyone says, the day flies by, so one of my biggest tips is to find a few minutes for just the two of you!

Taking these few minutes allowed them to take in all of the details of the reception space (without the blur of the music or people). It ended up being their favorite moment because the DJ was setting up and offered to cue their first dance song, “Joy of My Life” by Chris Stapleton, so they had an impromptu “unofficial” first dance just the two of them surrounded by romantic candlelight.

Quick recap: what is Vermont Weddings Best of 2021 Series?

A little backstory if you’re unfamiliar: we started the Best of series last year (2020) to highlight some of the amazing work by the talented teams in the Vermont wedding industry. It’s an opportunity to both celebrate a year’s worth of weddings and inspire couples who are planning a future Vermont wedding. (A quick note on the word “best”: the intention isn’t to make this a competition between weddings, but to share a small, but representative, sample of the weddings in Vermont this year.  To that end, please know that we love each and every wedding that was submitted, and the final picks are carefully chosen based on a variety of factors to create a compelling series.)

Here’s what you can expect:

All December, we’ll be rolling out inspiring stories in various categories:

  • Read Now: Best of Engagements
  • Read Now: Best of Style
  • Best of Florals
  • Best of Party Animals
  • Best of Design & Details
  • Best of Elopements
  • Best of Location
  • Best of Community

Plus, because the submissions were just THAT good, we’re sharing our “semi finalist” picks for each category on Instagram. That means you’ll want to follow us to see even more highlights, and come back to the blog each week to see the “best” picks in each category.

We recommend signing up for our newsletter – we’ll send you an email each week with the highlights so you won’t miss a thing. (Going forward we only send 1 – 2 emails a month.)

Pretty in Pink Vermont Backyard Wedding

Jen and Jason’s Vermont backyard wedding may have been small – but it was big on color and love! The couple tied the knot with their immediate family at Jen’s childhood home. Two additional, very special guests were in attendance: the couple’s dogs: Lexi (yellow lab) and Emmy (chocolate lab).

When dreaming about their big day, Jen dreamed of lush florals. She worked with Emily of Tipsy Tulip Designs to bring her vision to life, which included a lush, pink-hued bouquet filled with garden roses and peonies. Emily also created the wooden arbor rented by the couple, and adorned it with cascading greens, and spring favorites such as peonies, garden roses, and anemones to perfectly frame Jen and her bouquet.

Though it was not the wedding the couple had originally planned (the couple had a large wedding in mind, but pivoted due to Covid), Jen says she wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Check out highlights from their backyard microwedding, captured by Jenna Brisson, below.

A SPECTACULAR WINTER STYLED SHOOT AT A STATELY MANOR

Get ready to be wowed – today’s post is truly spectacular.

The Inn at Burklyn, a stately manor in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, stage for this elegant, winter styled shoot, led by Coryn Kiefer Photography

Elegant Tablescape with a Focus on Food

Planner and Stylist Lindsey of Lindsey Leichthammer Events says, “I am in love with how this shoot came out! My assignment was styling a beautiful tablescape; I focused on creating a crisp, clean look with silvery blues and grays. With my background in food and beverage, I love to utilize food in a design, so when I found the lemons, I had to incorporate them as place cards. Showcasing Vermont foods (like that amazing local honeycomb) is a passion of mine, so I was happy to be able to play with food for this shoot!”

Romantic Luxe Winter Floral Design Inspiration

Emily of Tipsy Tulip Designs created the lush, romantic floral design, inspired by her dream winter wedding. Her favorite detail: the gorgeous floral polls. “I wanted to give couples a fresh take on ceremony site flowers,” says Emily. “Not everyone loves an arbor, and flower poles are a great alternative. As a bonus, they are mobile. They can be used during a ceremony, and then after to flank the entrance to the reception or as a photo backdrop.”

It’s hard to overstate the beauty of this team’s work. See for yourself below!

A RED, WHITE, AND BLUE INTIMATE SUMMER WEDDING

“Vermont is where we fell in love,” says bride Sarah. “We knew our wedding had to be local.” Frequent visitors of the Champlain Islands, Sarah and Robert celebrated at the North Hero House on a brilliant summer day.

An Intimate Microwedding

The couple wanted their nuptials to be intimate and romantic. To that end, they invited only immediate family. “There was something special about only having 15 people present to witness such a special moment,” says Sarah. “It allowed Rob and I to really live our day, and focus on our love.”

A Surprise Patriotic Bridal Bouquet

Sarah worked with Emily of Tipsy Tulip Designs to create a red white and blue bouquet, which was a surprise for her military husband. “He loved it so much he sent it out to be pressed and framed for her!” says Emily. “It just warms my heart every time I see a photo of it and think of Sarah and Robert.”
