How did you get into wedding planning?

It was a natural evolution from being a restaurateur and hosting small weddings at Hemingway’s, then overseeing barn art-dinners at Newhall Farm for the Hall Art Foundation. Also there was a family wedding – my first big event at the farm. This piece of the puzzle fit and felt just right.

How would you describe your style?
I have no one “style” because I love and appreciate all art and design from the simple lines of Shaker to the curly cues of Rococo. I have the experience to carry out classical rules, and the artistic bent to bring off whimsy or abstract.

What inspires your work?
Each couple! I try to capture what they are looking for, and give them what they want. I do make suggestions throughout the process, but ultimately, it’s their call.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
The challenge of making a scene look as beautiful as possible within a given budget.

Any special tips for couples getting married?
After being married for a long time, and working alongside my husband for a long time … we suggest couples divide responsibilities, and trust the other to complete a well-done job.

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?
A romantic and heartfelt exchange of vows.

What song gets you on the dance floor at a wedding?
It doesn’t take much to get me on the dance floor! Anything with a good beat will do. But if I have to pick just one, I’ll choose “Without Love” by The Doobie Brothers.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Vermont?
Summer nights in a field eating and dancing. (Feast & Field in Barnard to name one!)

If you weren’t a wedding planner what would you do?
If I could, I would write fiction, but that’s harder then planning! With planning I know where I’m going. I’m also a do-er and planning is constant doing. I’ve also thought about floral arrangement, and I’ll sometimes do flowers if the wedding is small and at our home/venue.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?
My husband thinks it’s that I keep a pack of sugarless gum near the cookie jar – and sometimes in it!
