How did you get into the wedding industry?
I have worked in garden centers and flower shops for a long time. 20 years ago I moved to Vermont in order to grow flowers and shrubbery specifically for my design work. I just loved the fact that weddings incorporate multiple small and large floral designs that all work together to create a mood for the day so I leaned more into that type of work and the rest is history.
How would you describe your style?
I lean toward a natural style. I love to utilize lots of different blossoms, adding interest and texture.
What inspires your work?
I often let the most stunning blossoms on the farm, like large, lush blush peonies, or fabulous café au lait dahlias, lead me through the design process.
Any special tips for couples for choosing or working with a wedding professional like yourself or a wedding tip in general?
I think it is important to have a general idea of what you’re hoping for, and to stay open to ideas. When you’re open to all the possibilities, you may be surprised and find something more cost effective, in season or just more stunning!
I also remind wedding couples and family members to relax and enjoy their company on the day of the event, and trust their professionals to worry about the details so they can be fully present!
What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?
Prior to the big day, I love walking the couple and wedding families around our flower gardens and greenhouses to plan the wedding florals. That experience comes to life during the actual wedding day and it is so nice to see everyone’s reactions to the final product.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Vermont?
When wedding season winds down, I absolutely love spending time skiing! You can find me enjoying bluebird days at Sugarbush and Mad River Glen.
If you weren’t a wedding professional what would you do?
Before moving to Vermont, I managed a large garden center and conventional flower shop in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I had opportunities to decorate many historical properties in Pennsylvania, and while I did some floral designs for weddings then, it wasn’t to the extent of what I do now. I imagine if I wasn’t in the wedding industry, I would still be around flowers, decorating and gardening.
What’s a fun fact about yourself?
My farm is filled with more than just lush, beautiful flowers! I also have llamas, sheep, chickens and turkeys.
